Climate Mobilities Working Group Speaker Series: “Planet Repairs & The Imperative for Reparative Climate Mobility Justice”

Esther Stanford-Xosei, Stop The Maangamizi: We Charge Genocide/Ecocide Campaign, is the fourth speaker in the Climate Mobilities Working Group – 2023 Speaker Series.

Esther Stanford-Xosei is a Jurisconsult, decolonial Reparationist, and Community Advocate specializing in the critical legal praxis of ‘law as resistance’ as an approach to social movement-lawyering, Mother Earth Jurisprudence and eco-socio-legal transformation from below. In this regard, Esther serves as the Coordinator-General of the Stop The Maangamizi: We Charge Genocide/ Ecocide Campaign (SMWeCGEC). Esther’s scholar-activist work in championing ‘Planet Repairs’ as the nexus between cognitive justice, reparatory justice and environmental justice has contributed to the establishment of not only the International Network of Scholars & Activists for Afrikan Reparations (INOSAAR), of which she is a Co-Facilitator, but also the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Afrikan Reparations (APPGAR) in the UK Houses of Parliament. In addition, Esther is a co-founder of the Extinction Rebellion International Internationalist Solidarity Network (XRISN) which amplifies the voices of communities of resistance and their leading activists on the frontlines of the worldwide climate and ecological crisis in the Global South. Esther is also a co-founding member of the XR-Being The Change Affinity Network (XR-BCAN), a growing network of communities of resistance in unifying peoples’ power to effect and secure Planet Repairs.

The Climate Mobilities Working Group is an interdisciplinary research group of scholars from a range of institutions who examine the ethics, justice, policies, and science of climate displacement, immobility, and migration. The group is generously supported by the University Center for Human Values and Princeton University.
