Cook-Patton will consider how restoring forest cover represents a promising tool for removing carbon from the atmosphere, and discuss in which this tool can be used wisely or poorly. She will describe her efforts to improve our scientific understanding of reforestation as a climate solution, as well as to develop tools that help decision-makers determine where and how to optimize the use of this natural climate solution. In her current work, Cook-Patton works with scientists across the globe to quantify the climate-mitigation potential of reforestation and other natural climate solutions, and to infuse the best-available science into policy decisions.
